Information Systems Security Manager/LAN Network Administrator

Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) - CTF 52's accreditation officer, focal point and principal advisor for all command INFOSEC matters in compliance with governing directives and instructions. Analyzing and evaluating system security technology, policy and training requirements in support of National DOD, and DON INFOSEC, policies. Developed and maintained system accreditation and support documentation. Review and validate proposed system changes. Develop information systems contingency plans. Maintain responsibilities for all classified information systems, and provide daily oversight for COMMAND TASK FORCE 52, MINE COUNTERMEASURE TASK FORCE for, forty six system administrators and, staff personnel, including 386 personnel, for eight mine countermeasure ships. Provided costumer service for IAVA updates, implementing standard operational procedures for operating all LAN equipment, maintenance and training, equipment repair and logistics support. Installed and operated Top Secret, and Cryptologic equipment on 17 ships for exercises with Allied Nations.

Maintain responsibility for cutting-edge programs on a daily basis and react quickly to changing requirements and new developments and develop and maintain a formal information systems security program. Provide support for the implementation and enforcing of IS security policies, overseeing all System Administrators (SA's)to ensure they follow established information security policies and procedures, ensure the development of system certification documentation by reviewing and endorsing the documentation and recommending action by the Designated Approving Authority (DAA), ensuring approved procedures in place for clearing, purging, declassifying, and releasing system memory, media, and output. Maintain a repository for all system certification documentation and modifications as required by the DAA. Develop procedures for responding to security incidents and for investigating and reporting security violations and incidents to the DAA representatives and chain of command, ensure that data ownership and responsibilities established for each IS, including accountability, access rights, and special handling requirements. Ensure the development and implementation of an IS education, training, and awareness program. Develop and implementation of procedures for authorizing the use of software, hardware, and firmware on the system. Ensure that system recovery processes monitored and security features and procedures properly restored, and ensure all IS security-related documentation current and accessible to properly authorized individuals formally notifying the Security Manager and the DAA when changes that affect accreditation occur. Updated OS software and anti virus definitions and reviewed system audit logs. Maintain activity INFOSEC plans. Develop system security plans. Executed information transfer with state-of-the-art multi-media technology such as fiver optics, digital microwave, and tactical and commercial satellites on a global basis; operated, managed, and provided hardware and software support to multi-media automated information (AIS) to include; mainframes, mini, and microcomputers, Local Area Networks (LAN's) Wide Area Networks (WAN), and telecommunications. Applied diagnostic and restoral techniques utilizing knowledge of electronic and operational system theory; advised on control procedures including input/output quality control support; implementing and monitor security procedures, performing assigned mission organizational level maintenance and repair of Command Control Communication, Computer and Intelligence Systems.

 

Directed designed, installation and testing of new processing equipment. Ensured the transmission, receiving, and processing of all telecommunications using state-of-the-art multimedia technology. Managed all comsec and network traffic for U.S. and Multi-national ships in the Fifth Fleet AOR.

The maintenance and upkeep of over 1200 command files in alphabetical order and using a local filing system for easy storage and retrieval. Assist the Information Assurance Officer (IAO) in providing a variety of IA training for the command that includes new employee indoctrination, Computer Area System Officer, and annual all hand information security refresher training. Performs research to assist the management and the availability of system utilization data and security safeguards contained within the system software and hardware.
